St Jean D'Aulps

St Jean d'Aulps

St Jean d’Aulps is situated just 6km or a 10 minute drive from the ski resort of Morzine on the Grande Route des Alpes. It is 30 minutes south of Lake Geneva and makes the perfect spot for winter or summer holidays.

It is a small French village with a friendly community spirit. It has its own school, church and Mairie so continues to function out of season unlike most resorts.

Chalet Abbaye is just a ten minute walk from the centre of the village where there is a tourist information centre to help with all your requests and involve you in the local programme of events.

Bars and Restaurants

As well as restaurants, bars and all the facilities at the ski station, the village also boasts it's own selection of eateries and places to drink. The most popular venue in the village is the English run Bar National which is a great place to go for a drink and also serves excellent pizzas to eat in or take away. You can pop across the road to the tabac for a beer and change of scene.

Just behind Bar National is the Petit Coq, if you fancy steak and chips or a chicken curry this friendly little bistro is the place to go. Alternatively, if you're after something more sophisticated try the Alba restaurant.

Shops and Facilities

For supermarket shopping there is a large Carrefour with petrol station five minutes away on the road towards Morzine and a Carrefour Express on the main road running through St Jean.

There are also two boulangeries, one either side of the Marie, a butcher and a cheese shop. The produce sold at all of these establishments is, as you would expect in a French village, exceptional.

There are two hairdressers, a Tabac, a gift and souvenir shop and a ski shop.

The Abbey

Just across the road from Chalet Abbaye is l'Abbaye,

the Abbey, a 12th Century Cistercian monastery.

The ruins here have been classed as a historical monument since 1902 and in the ten years since we have been here the old church and monastery have been lovingly restored.

The monastery is now a hugely impressive museum complete with exhibitions, a tea room, tours and even beer tasting sessions with a traditional evening meal.

In the Summer there is a great calendar of events, the highlight of which is the medieval fete in August featuring jousting, medieval music, fun and games and general revelry.

Take a stroll around the gardens, steal a strawberry or two and then choose a tea and ice cream from the tissanerie.
